2010 NATURE'S BEST HIGHLY HONORED FINALIST

In October 2010, Kent was named as one of ten Highly Honored finalists in the Wildlife category of the Windland Smith Rice International Photography contest sponsored by Nature's Best Publishing.  This annual contest draws over 20,000 entries each year from top professional and amatuer photographers around the world,.  This contest is one of the world's largest and most prestigious photography contests.

The various category winners and all Highly Honored Finalists were featured in the annual Awards Edition of the Nature's Best Magazine which was published in late November 2010.  The category winners and selected finalists were displayed the following summer in the Smithsonian Institute's Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C.

Kent's image of two axis deer fighting in the Texas Hill country resulted from the classic nature photography strategy - BE THERE and BE PREPARED!! Kent was attempting to photograph Rio Grande turkeys when the two bucks starting "flailing" at one another. When they collapsed into an embrace from fatigue, Kent pressed the shutter and let the motordrive capture the entire sequence. A fast shutter speed froze the hair blowing in the wind. The image was taken with a Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III body with a Canon EF L 600 f4 IS lens.
